One of the most exotic bridal blooms, orchids vary from white to dark pink, yellow and green to deep purple.  Thousands of species are cultivated – only a few used for weddings.  Long-stemmed dendrobium are perfect for a shower-style bouquet.  Star-shaped and hardy, cymbidium make a great choice for a tropical themed bouquet.  Looking for soft and elegant? White  phaleonopsis  with their butterfly- like blossoms make a great choice!

Wedding Favorites - Lily
Blooms of oriental lilies are much larger and flamboyant than Asiatic hybrids and are beautifully scented.  Colors range from white and soft pink to yellows and reds.

Unique varieties of crysanthemum such as button mums, Kermit mums, or spiders can add unique textures and color to your bridal bouquet.  Available year-round and reasonably priced, mums are no longer “just a daisy”.

Tips and Hints

Planning That Special Day

  • When choosing the color of your bouquet, think about your complexion.  For example, pale brides may need to add a splash of color in their arrangements to prevent them from looking washed out.
  • If you are having black and white photography, make sure you pick booms with a deep, 3D shape that will stand out well.
  • Choose flowers that work well with the tone of your wedding.  For example. Orchids are a natural choice for a tropical theme.
  • Check with your ceremony and reception venues as to any decorating restrictions they may have.
  • Chose your wedding date carefully.  Florists are very busy around Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day and Christmas.  Your flowers may also cost more at these times.
  • If you are getting married abroad, ask your hotel for recommendations of local florists.  Ask to see examples of the florists’ work.
  • Choose a florist you connect with.  Brides are in need of personal attention – someone to help educate and guide while you choose your flowers.

How To Get The Most From Your Flowers

  • Re-use ceremony flowers at your receiption site.  Attach pew bows to the head table or chair backs.  Use large arrangements as a backdrop for reception photo's.
  • Use brides and bridesmaids bouquets to dress the reception.  Nosegay provides, at no charge to their brides, vases to set your handtied bouquets in to dress the head table  or cake table.  Ask your design consultant for details.
  • Gift your tablecenters.  Lovely potted plants or cut flowers bouquets make great gifts to special guests at the end of the evening.
  • Ask your photographer to take a styled shot of your wedding  bouquet.  This image can later be used as decor in your home - a lasting and stylish memento of your special day.
  • Consider an arrangement for the guest register table - perhaps something to sit next to and compliment your engagement photo.  All your guests will make a stop at this spot so it is a great place to set a "WOW" arrangement.
