Proper care for your arrangements or cut flowers will keep them looking fresh and beautiful longer:
- Bleach clean vases before use.
- Prepare your vase with warm water and the floral food enclosed.
- When loose cut or handtied flowers arrive, trim the stems of all the fowers with a sharp knife on the diagonal. Even if your flowers have been out of water for a short time they must receive a fresh cut to ensure uptake of water.
- Remove any foliage below the water line.
- Display your flowers in a cool, draft-free location. Do not set arrangements in direct sunlight, near a hot or cold draft or on top of a television. Heat causes flowers to dehydrate.
- Should the water in your vase become cloudy after a few days replace it entirely. Empty and clean the vase. Recut all the cut flower stems and replace into fresh warm water.
- Flowers that arrive in floral foam have been pretreated with products to nourish the blooms and inhibit bacterial growth. Check water levels daily.
- Remove or replace wilted flowers. As flowers fade within your arrangement remove as soon as possible to prevent deterioration of other blooms. (Flowers are like apples - one bad one can spoil the others).
Important to know:
Purchasing flowers in season means better quality and reasonable prices. Asking your florist for a seasonal bouquet is an excellent choice.
Certain varieties of cut flowers last longer than others. If lasting power is of utmost importance - relay that to your florist. We will help you make choices to ensure a beautiful and lasting arrangement.
